Up For Adoption
Adoption Policy
Saving the lives of these wonderful dogs is only the beginning of North Texas Samoyed Rescue, Inc.'s mission. Our ultimate goal is to see them placed in loving, forever homes where both the dog and its adoptive family can live "happily ever after." To this end, we make every effort to find the best fit of rescued Sammy with adoptive home. Except in very rare instances, unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of NTSRI, adopters must reside no more than 250 miles from our home base in Dallas, Texas.
Each rescued Samoyed that enters our program is immediately examined by a veterinarian and treated for any medical problems that may exist. The dog is also vaccinated, placed on heartworm preventative, and microchipped for identification purposes. Intact dogs that come into NTSRI's rescue program are spayed or neutered; NTSRI does not allow intact dogs to be adopted under any circumstances. Each dog is then placed in foster care with an NTSRI volunteer, who evaluates the dog for personality and behavioral traits.
Prospective adopters are required to complete NTSRI's Adoption Application. The information on the application helps us to determine which, if any, of the dogs in our program best fits your preferences, lifestyle, and home environment. After we receive and review your Adoption Application, we will be in a position to set up an appointment for you to meet with us, interact with the dog(s) and interview the foster caregiver. This initial visit will be done on our premises. Before an adoption can be finalized, NTSRI requires that a second visit, to the prospective adopter's home, also be made by an NTSRI volunteer.
Once you have chosen a rescued Samoyed (or the Sammy has chosen you!), our standard Rescue Adoption Agreement (different from the initial Application) must be signed. A requested adoption donation of $250 helps to defray NTSRI's costs. On average, NTSRI's actual expenditure for each dog we rescue is $300-400. So, as you can see, your adoption donation covers only a small portion of what we actually spend; however, it does help us to continue saving Samoyed lives.

Breeze

Breeze is the newest addition to the NSRI program, having just arrived on February 7, 2010. He was surrendered by his owner to a high-kill shelter in Houston. The owner cited financial difficulties and the inability to care for him as the reasons for his surrender.
Breeze is approximately 6-7 years old. We are currently working on his badly matted coat, trying to avoid shaving him if at all possible. He needs to gain about eight pounds, but he has a good appetite, which will soon correct that problem. He is neutered, housebroken, in excellent health and walks well on a leash. He is extremely affectionate and just wants someone to love him!
Cheyenne

As a
puppy, Cheyenne (formerly known as "Fluffy") was abandoned in an
industrial area near
The best way to describe her is: a very happy, 60-pound puppy. Cheyenne is a Sam mix. She is full grown but she is still a little underweight. She is crate trained and housebroken. Cheyenne still needs some training, but she is extremely intelligent and very eager to please. She actually enjoys “training time,” as long as kibble rewards are included.
Because of her size, Cheyenne would be happiest in a
home with no small pets or children.
Her forever home will be one that can give her the attention she
deserves, with room to run and play.
Noelle

Noelle is a Sammy mix -- possibly with Finnish Spitz. She was rescued from an Arkansas shelter. Against our wishes, they spayed her and put her on a truck the very next day to NTSRI in Texas. Fortunately, she survived the trip without any complications; however, we would have much preferred that she had not undergone the surgery until she reached us. She is probably about 4 years old. Noelle has blossomed under the care of her foster "mom" and is no longer as insecure as she was when she first came to NTSRI. She craves attention and companionship -- either from humans or other dogs. She plays very well with the other animals in her foster home (which include both dogs and cats) and loves to run and play chase with the other dogs in the back yard.
Teddy

Teddy was a stray who was found wandering on a military base and ended up in the base animal shelter. It was obvious that he must have been on his own for awhile, as he was extremely emaciated. In fact, he had to gain several pounds before the veterinarian would proceed with his neuter surgery. His nose was injured in his attempts to escape the confines of the shelter and crates at his foster home, but it is now healed nicely. Teddy is a bit small for a Sammy, but there is no doubt that that's what he is. He may be small, but he has a very "manly" bark that sounds like a much larger dog. Teddy has a couple of minor, very treatable, medical problems, but they in no way hinder his ability to live a long and healthy life. We believe him to be approximately four years old.
Trinity

Trinity is a gorgeous girl who was rescued from the San Antonio shelter. She is a big girl, but very much a Sammy in both looks and personality. We believe that she is 5-7 years old.
Trinity would do best in a one-dog home with an experienced owner, as she can be a bit bossy at times. She is very intelligent, very verbal, and loves to be around people. She is crate trained, housebroken, and in excellent health.
