A Sammy With A Mission: Sheffield’s Story

Sheffield was adopted from NTSRI by Helen Gustafson back in March, 1998, after she had lost her husband of fifty years.  It was a match made in heaven, as both he and his owner were in need of a companion at the time.

Sheffield is a shining example of a Samoyed that found his true calling in life, when Helen saw his potential as a therapy dog.  The pair soon became a regular sight at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in McAllen, Texas, where they made weekly “therapy” visits to the residents.  Helen and Sheffield became quite well known for their therapy work - even being featured in a newspaper story at one time!
